July News & Updates

The 2019 Annual Meeting was a success!

Two Representatives from the Small Business Association of Michigan talked about a few of the benefits now available to all MGGC members as part of the Strategic Partnership we recently entered.

Goeff Hansen, Executive Director gave us an update

Thank you to Countryside Greenhouse for hosting the Michigan Greenhouse Growers Annual Membership Meeting.

Meet our Executive Director

Welcome to our new Executive Director, Mainstreet President Goeff Hansen, who brings 30 years of business and 14 years of Legislative experience to the Association. Goeff comes to us fresh from the 99th Legislature as the 34th district State Senator and is eager to help us grow and prosper as he settles in to the position.

Goeff lives in Oceana county and has a long background with agriculture specialty crops and ag promotion and understands how to help make our brand grow. Goeff spent 30 years in the grocery business, learning it from the bottom up, from bagboy to store owner, he learned about hard work and how to make sure the customer was well served and happy. Goeff is planning on visiting many of the member greenhouses across the state this year and speaking directly to members to learn of the issues that are important to them.

You can contact Goeff directly by email at Mainstreet@SBAM.org with any questions or ideas you may have for the Association.

Call to Action on Farm Bill

On behalf of Michigan Greenhouse Grower’s Council (MGGC), Senator Stabenow has addressed crop insurance and indemnity to include greenhouses. The following language is included in the Senate passed version of the 2018 Farm Bill. MGGC was founded to pursue a remedy for loss of crop and indemnity for government ordered crop destruction. After many years of work on this issue, we are encouraged by the inclusion of the language below. Now we need your help. Please respond to this call to action.

Section 11122

Call your Congressional Representative and Senators and urge their support of the Senate passed version of the 2018 Farm Bill.
